WHAT IS LIMITER?
Limiter is designed to help you exercise within your physical limits. Whether you’re exercising cautiously for cardiac rehabilitation or scientifically for Zone 2 training, staying within or below your heart rate limits is vital.
Unlike a conventional heart rate monitor, you can set your maximum heart rate (BPM) and Limiter will flash and vibrate when (if) you exceed your max. Limiter can be used without a smartphone app or Bluetooth device. Each heart rate zone is colour coded and helps you set your max BPM alerts.
Designed primarily for cardiac rehabilitation and to bring peace of mind to your exercise, Limiter has pre-set heart rate BPM alerts at: 150, 140, 130 & 120 BPM. Simply press the button to scroll through and set your safe BPM max alert. The LED will change colour indicating the maximum BPM alert you have set.
The armband can be worn discretely under clothing and continuously transmits live heart rate BPM data via Bluetooth to compatible Bluetooth & ANT+ devices. See the video below for Bluetooth pairing and setup.
SOFT FLEXIBLE ARMBAND
The soft armband can be adjusted easily to fit your arm snugly, yet securely. The ideal placement is on the forearm (above the wrist) or on the bicep under your clothes.
Optical heart rate sensors use Photoplethysmography (PPG) with LED lights to measure the blood flow in the capillaries. The best location to clearly measure the blood flow is the forearm and bicep, where the capillaries are most visible.
With Limiter, you don’t need to always connect to a smart phone app or watch to constantly monitor your BPM. The monitor tracks your BPM in real time with the LED colours representing the max BPM limit. When you reach your maximum BPM limit, the device will flash red and vibrate. This is a sign to take it easy and recover your breath and lower your heart rate. The LED will stop flashing red when your BPM decreases below your limit.
For those considering using Limiter during rehabilitation, you can find many medically approved cardiac recovery exercise videos and information on the British Heart Foundation website link below.
RATE OF PERCEIVED EXERTION (RPE)
Limiter is designed to compliment the Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE) scale, cardiac rehabilitation instructors use to assess and monitor how hard the body copes with physical activity. If Limiter is set to alert at 150BPM, but your RPE is at 19-20 and Limiter does not vibrate and flash red, this implies the max BPM alert may need to be lowered to a safer level.
RPE helps you measure how hard your body is working during exercise with a numbered range. The RPE scale was developed by Gunnar Borgin in 1960s and often known as the Borg Rating of Perceived Exertion. With a scale of 6 - 20. The 12-20 range is considered a moderate to very hard level of intensity. This level is often experienced when jogging, cycling or taking part in group HIT classes.
During cardiac rehabilitation the RPE scale is often used as a guide to monitor your fitness levels after an assessment. Cardiac rehabilitation professionals advise understanding the RPE scale before starting exercise.
